Over the past year I have carried out a considerable amount of work on the issue of access to GP surgeries in Midlothian. A number of constituents have contacted me about the difficulty they have had in getting an appointment or registering with a GP.
Access to a GP is definitely one of the biggest issues in Midlothian at the moment, the other main one is housing, and they tie together. There are a lot of developments happening in Midlothian but we are not seeing investment into health to keep up with that growth.
I have raised this point with the Scottish Health Minister, but sadly we have yet to see any action on this or improvement. I support the idea of introducing developer contributions to health care in the same way as they do for council services and infrastructure.
I will keep pushing for our local health care services to be fully funded and for our GP services to be improved.
