Danielle Rowley MP visited the Mary burn with the #imbackcaring group to see first-hand the issues surrounding plastic pollution from flushed wipes and sanitary products.
The clean-up of the Mary Burn has still not been completed by Scottish Water and evidence of non-biodegradable objects are still flowing into the River Esk and Mary burn.
Danielle Rowley MP said: “It is quite obvious from what I’ve seen today that the clean up of the Mary burn still has some distance to go. I will continue to push for this to be resolved.
“Remember, the following items should not be flushed down the toilet:
– all wipes (baby, personal cleansing, toilet and household cleaning) – even if the pack says ‘flushable’
– sanitary items (sanitary towels, tampons, liners, applicators and backing strips
– cotton wool, cotton buds, disposable nappies and nappy liners
– condoms, incontinence pads, colostomy bags, used bandages and contact lenses
Let’s all do our part in helping to clean up the Mary Burn.”
